A heaven within heaven

If you've read the chronicles of Narnia series you know what I'm talking about(If you haven't read these books stop wasting your time reading this and find yourself a copy). In the seventh book when everyone goes to heaven and there are smaller better heavens nestled within each other. That was my reality today. I slept in until ten thirty this morning after not having set an alarm again. I got ready for the day and looked up Stu's hostel in order to find it today. That's when I discovered I didn't have the name of Stu's hostel, he had the confirmation email so I wasn't going to be able to look for it today. I have a few days next week that will be good for exploring. I set out into the city planning on seeing some of the big sights, and taking lots of pictures. At the end of the tram line, the starting point for most of my adventures, is a cat sanctuary. I've walked by it many times, but this time I walked down the steps to a small railed in platform, and pet several of the cats
that had jumped up for attention. There had to have been twenty or so cat's just in the little section the platform overlooked, it was a pretty neat start to the day. I then headed to Piazza Venezia, which I explored, and got wonderful pictures of, its one of my favorite places in Rome. Next I walked along the forum to the coliseum, then along via del corso (the main shopping street) to the trevi fountain. It was packed today, so I took a picture of the horde of people that were crammed into the tiny piazza and continued on my journey. All of Rome was packed today, the streets were overrun with people enjoying the beautiful Saturday weather. I walked past the Spanish Steps on my way to Piazza del Poplolo, it was equally as crowded. Piazza del Popolo reminded me of being in the mall on a Friday night, it was filled with the youth of the city in the latest in alternative fashion styles. I noticed a building at the far end of the Piazza that people were standing on top of. I found a staircase that led to the building, and decided to see if I could get in for free, imagining it would be a pretty sweet view. I was right, it was amazing. and not only was this just a building as it turned out this was the enormous park that surrounds the Villa Borghese. This was my heaven within heaven. The park was beyond beautiful and absolutely huge. I saw a dozen fountains, and little squares, a bounce house for children, there was a place to rent bicycles and segways. Not to mention beautiful trees, bushes, grass things you don't see very much of in Rome. The park was so gorgeous, I could skip class everyday and just hang out until I leave; but I won't. I definitely plan on coming back at least once every week. I didn't get to explore it to the extent that I wanted, because the sun was setting and I had a good walk left before getting back home. I left, knowing that I had quite possibly found my favorite part of Rome. I can't wait to share it with those who are coming to visit me. As I walked back towards the end of the tram line, I turned down a road in attempt to find a gelato place that we passed on the gallery walk yesterday. I could not find it for the life of me. I walked around the area I expected it to be in for almost a half an hour. For parts of this search I wasn't sure of my exact location, but I knew my general area, and when I hit the pantheon I decided to relinquish my quest until I could access google maps. It was nightfall by now, and I remembered a smoothie place Becca and I came across the weekend before. I thought a smoothie would be a fun substitue for my missing gelato, and went in to investigate. It was more pricy than gelato would have been, but absolutely scrumptious. While I was perusing the menu the woman behind the counter told me I could use my fantasy, meaning I could pretty much get whatever I wanted. I'm not quite to that smoothie level yet, so I ordered a Mr. Brown which had coconut, banana, chocolate, milk and cinnamon in it. It was very tasty. I was home around seven o'clock, and talked to my sister while making myself some peas and mushrooms for dinner. I uploaded photos and started blogging for the rest of the day, and before I knew it, it was midnight and time for bed.
