School!! Oh yeah, that's what I'm here for.

Today was my first day of classes at the American University of Rome (which is accredited just in case you were wondering). I went in early to enrollment services to sort out my "I'm only enrolled in three classes"deal As it turns out it was simply a printing error, but I did put in an application to switch my Italian class from Tuesday/ Thursday to Monday night. That way I wouldn't have classes on either Thursday or Friday which would be pretty convenient for traveling. I'll know by the end of the week if I was successful or not. After sorting things out with enrollment I went to my Masterpieces of Italian Opera class, where I discovered that one of the girls who lives below me is taking the class as well. I'm pretty excited about this class because, 1.) we do not have to buy books, 2.) We get three free CD's of opera music, and 3.) we get to go see two performances at the international opera house. Not for free, but it will still be an awesome experience. Also my professor mentioned the Des Moines Opera house as one of the more important Opera's in the United States, which is pretty sweet. After this class I'll definitely have to see a show back home. My second class of the day, Art Gallery Management is probably going to be my toughest class; we have to keep a weekly journal and there are three books to buy. We'll see about that. I'm very excited for how specific to my major this coursework will be, and our professor is extremely experienced. She ran an art gallery in New York for several years, and is now managing one here in rome. I forgot to pack my lunch today (whoops) luckily the vending machine fare is cheap (suprisingly). I also made new friends today, including two resident students who have been in rome for at least a semester, I have a feeling they're going to be good people to have around. I took the bus home after class and was home by five forty five. I've spent the evening pricing flights for spring break trips. I'm seriously considering spending two days in Dublin, Glasgow, and then London before returning home. I can fly from Dublin to Glasgow for seven euro, and from Glasgow to London for the same. The total flight cost would only set me back one hundred and thirty three euro which is a little under two hundred dollars, not bad for a weeks worth of traveling. I also discovered that the phone I bought was faulty, and I have to go pick up a new one, free of charge luckily. Despite this news it's been a very good day; I talked to my mother who learned how to use msn just for me, and I'm looking forward to the busy-ness that accompanies schoolwork.

And if you must know about my Sunday activities... (although I'll warn you now they are very boring, waste your time reading this next paragraph at your own discretion)
My roommate and I had planned to wake up early to go to a large open air market, but after a brief game of, "well, do you want to go?" "I don't care. Do you want to go?" we decided to sleep in after a busy week. Consequently we slept in until one in the afternoon, and I stayed in my pajamas for almost the entire day. I did not go to church as I have not seen a single one outside of the basilicas in ancient Rome, something I'm going to have to inquire about. We did venture out to investigate a school supply store, only to find that nearly everything is closed on sundays. It was however, nice to be outside for a bit. After returning I watched the movie 'Pleasantville' in ten parts on youtube, because hulu does not work outside the U.S. Neither does Abc.com meaning I will have to wait until the summer to catch the last season of lost, something I can totally live with considering the circumstances.

by the way Becca, Matt Damon?!?! I'm so jealous, and drooling a little just thinking about it :)
