Thank God I don't have class on Friday
Literally, It would have been a little difficult to function. I woke up feeling pretty good for the amount of booze I threw up the night before. I took three Motrin this morning, drank some water and went back to bed. My roommate and I slept in until eleven, woke up, got ready and headed out to do a few errands.I needed to pick up my replacement cell phone, and she wanted to locate a few hotels her parents were thinking of staying in.
We found where I needed to be without too much hassle. Which was pretty impressive given it was nowhere near anywhere we had previously explored. After a very strange encounter picking up my phone (about three words were spoken between the woman behind the counter and I) We decided to wander around inner Rome for awhile. We walked up and down small cobblestone streets encountering beautiful buildings (like this random vine covered one) and amazing clothing and shoe stores. We even found an awesome little vintage shop that had great leather jackets and funky little dresses.
After two hours we were considerably lost, but neither of us were too bothered by this fact, as we had just found a McDonalds with a euro menu. We gave into temptation and had a wonderfully American meal at 'McItaly'. The hamburger and fries tasted exactly the way they do at home, although its been over a year since I've had it in the states. After our cozy inexpensive dinner we continued our adventure in the rain. We found Termini Station which is the bus, train, and tram station in Rome, as well as an incredible luxury hotel. We also inadvertently saw porn while book browsing at a street vender stall (trying desperately and ineffectively to erase those images)We eventually saw a monument we recognized (Piazza Venezia, it's the beautiful white building in the picture) and pointed ourselves in that direction.
It took awhile to reach it as we made more stops into shops along the way. We then waited for approximately half an hour for our bus to come, and made one last stop for milk. For dinner tonight we had a potluck with the girls who live below us, and boy can they cook. Audrey, cooked for three hours, and made us chicken marsala with broccoli and green beans. Another girl made potatoes and pasta with red sauce. Becca and I provided cheese and crackers as well as a pasta dish that turned out very similar to mac and cheese (it was really delicious) We also had sliced apples, prosciutto, olives and wine.
For dessert Audrey made a wonderful bread pudding-like concoction with apples figs and nutella, It was divine. In addition to that Leah bought a gelato cake, also divine. We drank red wine with the meal, and it was wonderful to sit and eat great food with great neighbors. I plan on watching the season premier of lost (hopefully I can find it online)tonight, and maybe the Lovely Bones. Tomorrow I will be visiting a chapel made entirely of bones, should be pretty sweet.
